Protecting Flanders from flooding by the Schelde and its tributaries. Restoring unique river nature. And simultaneously taking into account recreation and the local economy. These are the 3 main goals of the Sigma Plan, which is implemented by De Vlaamse Waterweg nv and the Agency for Nature and Forest. With its projects the Sigma Plan makes Flanders ready for the future. We did the same for their website.
The new website had to tackle some persistent obstacles. For many people, it was unclear what the Sigma Plan stands for, what it does, and where it is being implemented. So the website had to offer more insight into the projects, through a clear structure and user-friendly design.
In addition, it had to address the questions of various target audiences: local residents, environmental and nature conservationists, policymakers and government agencies, scientists and researchers, businesses and industries, recreation and tourism, and, finally, educational institutions.
We began with a needs analysis of each target audience and determined what content and features were necessary to meet those needs. For the design, we based it on the branding we had previously created for the Sigma Plan. We also wrote all the content, keeping SEO optimization in mind.
All of this flowed together into an impressive website. For each project, you'll find the status, impact, recent updates, and other news. It also always explains exactly why the project is being done. Clarity and openness? Check. In addition to information about the projects, you will also find fun activities, grade and teaching materials, numerous publications and much more. Interesting for every target group? Double check. Mission accomplished, in other words.
